Can a Medpor Chin Implant Be Shaved Down Without Removing It?

Question

I had one inserted about 3 years ago, and it is too boxy from the front and has too much projection from the side profile. Would it be possible to just go in and shave it down a bit? It is secured with 4 screws, and I don't want to go through the trauma of removal.

Although more difficult, A Medpor Chin Implant can probably be shaved down without removing it however the screws would most likely have to be removed and replaced. See a board certified Plastic Surgeon with experience for the best options.

It is going to be very difficult to go in and shave down a Medpor implant with screws in place because shaving the implant will then expose the screws, which will be palpable or poke through the skin. It is best to completely remove the Medpor implant and insert a silastic chin implant in the normal anatomical pocket without any screws. This would have a much more natural feel than your current chin implant.

Medpore is a porous material that stimulates tissue growth. It can be shaved or BURRED down, the problem is ofcourse the four screws that are metal and do not do well with shaving. It is possible to be able to locate the screws and remove them with the right screw driver suitable to the type and make of the screws.  It can be a very involved surgery. The best thing is to see the surgeon who did the original surgery, he/she has all the appropriate information. That information could be also recorded in the original medical records of the surgeon and the facility where the surgery was done.
