Light Erbium Fraxel® treatments can be done safely on Asian skin, but only with a very experienced board-certified aesthetic dermatologist, with a great deal of experience in treating ethnic and darker-skin types, because customizing the actual laser settings to your individual needs greatly enhances your result AND prevents hyperpigmentation.
Fractional erbium lasers are safe for asian skin. The risk for asian skin after a laser is post inflammatory hyperpigmentaion. We may recommend a test spot to see how your skin responds first before deciding to treat the whole entire area. It's best to schedule a consultation to see what the best option is for your skin.
Erbium better in terms of PIH, but CO2 better in terms of end results. See someone who has extensive experience in ethic skin rejuvenation. I prefer CO2, high power, lower density, but also use all other lasers in ethnic skin, including Erbium and better still Pico. All the best, Dr Davin Lim.
