How much time off for Lipoma removal?

I am having Lipoma Removal Surgery on Tuesday, December 12th. The Lipoma is right next to my spine. I work at a daycare. I teach eight two-year olds. The changing table in my room has steps. I was told that they would cut the shape of a football to remove it. I would have stitches and probably be off a week.

It is hard to tell based on the photo whether the swelling is from 1) normal edema/swelling after surgery 2) scar tissue deposition 3) recurrence of your lipoma. In office steroid injections can help with 1 & 2 and only time will tell if it could be number 3. I would certainly discuss with your...

Lipomas can be removed under local anesthesia in the office. It usually costs $1,000. You may want to get an ultrasound done to make sure it is a lipoma and it is not involving any nerves or muscles. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.

I normally treat seromas with aspiration to drain them and use compression. This normally requires aspiration multiple times, but in my experience, this usually resolves the issue.
