What can be done from a split lip scar/raised lip scar? (Photos)

Question

Long story short I was assaulted 2 years ago, and having been struck in the face multiple times, my attacker managed to split upper lip.. I had to go in and get stitches, but I guess the doctor didn't do a good job because the stitches left an annoying unsightly bump/scar on my lip that's very noticeable. What can be done to remedy this? I'm willing to do anything

So sorry that this happened to you. From the photos, it is likely that this is a hypertrophic scar (a "proud flesh scar), which is essentially an overproduction of fibrous tissue response during healing. If this is indeed so, then the injection of anti-inflammatory agents, such as triamcinolone+/-5-FU, can help to shrink and flatten the scar. Make sure that you consult with an experienced, board certrified cosmetic dermatologist. Best of luck.

Our treatments use combination therapy to improve the epidermis and dermis for most deep scars. The options available for acne scars depend on the character of your scars, in terms of topography and contour. We see atrophic and hypertrophic acne scars, as well as scars that have hypo and hyperpigmentation. We begin each scar evaluation with an assessment of scar quality and subtype. Our main concern is rebuilding collagen and that is why we use a HIDEF protocol that includes combination therapy. Morpheus 8, scar subcision, fibrous release, fractional laser, CO2 laser, Thulium laser, PDL Vbeam laser, and fractional resurfacing can be used in addition to TCA Cross and chemical peels to further improve skin. Patients should start Melarase AM and Melarase PM for active hyperpigmentation. Always begin with a consultation to decide whether early subcision should be started.

I'm sorry to hear you went through this unfortunate event. This scar may need to be surgically removed for the best outcome, but fillers and lasers like ablative CO2 can help.
