Can I be on an immunosuppressant for breast augmentation?

Dear djame227, I would review all your current medications with your plastic surgeon and confirm with the anesthesiologist that it is ok to remain on remicade. You also want to notify your PCP that you will be having surgery, and your plastic surgeon may ask for a surgical clearance letter from them. Traveling can cause blood clots so be sure to walk around during the flight and wear compression socks. Hope this helps!

 Any type of immunosuppressant can increase the risk of infection following surgery.  Your plastic surgeon should call your gastroenterologist and discuss the options for treating you. The health of your colon is more important than the appearance of your breasts in the long run. 

Your internist will clear you for surgery.  You can call first and see if is OK.Most likely you will be cleared.Long plane travel after surgery increases blood clot risk, so discuss this with your internist also.Best to keep moving as much as possible on the plane, use compression socks, and avoid sleeping.Best wishes,Dr. Denkler
