Hi, Is that possible to have sharper nose by rhinoplasty like on the picture? I heard about L-shaped silicone implants, are these nose implants can be used for it? Is there any procedure to make a nose sharper? Thanks.

Of course a nose can be made "sharper" by Rhinoplasty. Tip work is one of the common requests surgeons get. Making the tip more refined or defined has a component of "sharpness" in it. So does narrowing the tip, as it often is associated with a rounded tip. Using an implant is a common technique for Oriental and AfroAmerican nose, while its uncommon for Caucasian noses. Suture and or graft techniques are what most surgeons turn to. Finally the thickness of the skin has a very significant influence on the degree of "sharpness" possible. The thinner the "sharper".

Dear DavidOne f the common goals in rhinoplasty is to create more definition of your tip, sometimes by narrowing it and sometimes by adjusting your tip height by creating a supratip break and also by forming an infratip mini-rotation. (all three are things you have done in your pic.) In general, the limiting factor is the thickness of your skin and subcutaneous tissue. (and of course the surgeons skill set)In a nose like yours, silicone implants would not be routinely used because you have adequate cartilage to get similar results without the risks. See more than one surgeon in consultation. Understand the issues as they pertain to your nose. When you are ready, make an informed decision. Find surgeons with experince in rhinoplasty and certified by the American Board of Plastic surgery of Facial plastic surgery.

I am assuming you are referring to your nasal tip.  A surgical rhinoplasty will make a nose appear more sharply refined.  I recommend seeking out a Board-Certified plastic or facial surgeon who will accurately assess your nose, create a "simulation" that will show you what your nose COULD look like, and formulate a plan tailored to your wishes. In our practice, we do not recommend L struts to many complications that we have seen performed elsewhere.  To accomplish the goals presented in the morphed photographs, a tip rhinoplasty would need to be performed along with dorsal cartilage removal in the supra tip area of the nose.

The nasal tip may be made "sharper" or more refined by rhinoplasty.  In this operation, the tip or alar cartilages are trimmed and by various methods (sutures versus cartialge grafts) made more defined.  Take down the dorsum cartilage a bit and you have a sharper nose.  I like an open technique using sutures for most patients, but individual surgeons use what works best for them.  I like the VECTRA 3-d system for give the patient an idea of what the rhinoplasty may look like.  It is not a guarantee or even a prediction, but it does make sure that the patient and surgeon have the same goal in mind and that the patient has realistic expectations.

Rhinoplasty can refine or "sharpen" your nasal tip.  I don't use silicone struts ever. Seek out a Rhinoplasty Expert, and seek multiple consultations.
