I have had Lupus since I was 8 years old and I am 29 now. My Lupus has been pretty stable but I did have a kidney transplant 14 months ago. Im looking to undergo this surgery in 2022 and thinking about travelling for the surgery. Any surgeons here have any experience operating on patients with my medical situation? I am a lil nervous to travel but I know a lot of people who have travelled with amazing results. I cant seem to find the results im looking for here in Canada.
Answer: Surgery with Lupus Thank you for your question. From a professional point of view this is not an impediment to have the procedure done, however, your doctor might refer you to a specialist to make sure everything is under control. Respectfully, Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-

Answer: BBL candidate Dear Trustworthy115736, every plastic surgeon has his own preoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. You might need to get a clearance from your doctor. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon. Answer: Elective surgery with serious medical conditions Both lupus and having had a kidney transplant Tatian are fairly significant medical conditions to take in the consideration when deciding to have elective cosmetic surgery. You’re most likely find different plastic surgeons to have different opinions and levels of comfort we’re doing a non-necessary procedure on someone with that background. I would highly recommend staying local for elective surgical procedures as much as possible. Regardless your plastic surgeon will need to communicate closely with both your rheumatologist and nephrologist to manage your medical conditions, medication‘s and minimize any unnecessary risk. It would also be a good idea to get an idea of your candidacy for the procedure. It makes little sense to take unnecessary risk for a procedure that may not have much benefit for someone who may not be a great candidate for the procedure. Conversely if someone is going to have a major life improvement from having the procedure then taking increased risk may be justifiable. I typically always encourage patients to start by having in person consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons. There may be local talent in your community you are not aware of. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD

Answer: Cosmetic surgery if with lupus erythematosus post kidney transplant Hi and welcome to our forum!Although there are no technical challenges when performing a BBL on a patient with lupus erythematosus and kidney transplant, the medical issues may be problematic. Your nephrologist and primary care physician must be involved in the decision making process. One should proceed only if it is determined to be safe.Best wishes...
