I have been getting these cuts in the corner of my mouth for years! every pregnancy they get worse and more common. Now post partum I still get them at least every other month. They’re embarrassing bc they look like a cold sore! I have read that lip filler can be a treatment option? Would I be a good candidate for that?
Answer: Treatment for angular chelitis Filler can help elevate the corners of the mouth which would ultimately help improve the angular chelitis. You also likely need moisturizers in that area, good skin care and you might also need steroids to help improve that area. You might want to see your dermatologist first as often local treatment with topicals alone can help resolve the problem.

Answer: Lip filler is not the answer Thank you for your question. The only time lip filler would be suitable in such case is in an older patient with down turning corners of the mouth and trenches that divert spit downward Which can keep the skin chronically wet. But this is not the treatment for you. I would look at nutritional deficiency deficiencies or immune deficiencies. I would look for iron deficiency, anemia, vitamin D deficiencies, B12 deficiencies, protein deficiencies, elevated blood sugar, insulin resistance, maybe zinc. Best of luck to you!

Answer: Treatment of Angular Cheilitis If the irritation at the corners of the mouth is cause by drooling, there are two options for treatment. First, if you have an over production of saliva, rerouting the parotid salivary ducts can redirect the saliva to the back of the mouth and cure the problem. If this does not appear to be the problem but you just have a commissure that does not seal well, then a filler placed in the lower lip to increase the seal of the commissure works exceptionally well. This is something we do all the town in older individuals who start to drool when gravity pulls the corner of the mouth down and causes loss of seal there.
