How can I use the washroom with a compression garment after inner thigh liposuction and when can I resume sexual activity?

I am getting liposuction of my inner thigh and knee done in a week, and my surgeon told me to buy a compression garment. I didn't have any questions during the consultation, but after some thinking, I wanted to ask: 1) how will I use the washroom in a compression garment when I'm advised to keep it on 24 hours a day? 2) how long do I have to wait until I can take the whole thing off and take a proper shower? 3) How long after the surgery can I engage in sexual activity?

If necessary, garments can be taken off immediately after surgery. However, because of discomfort manipulating these garments, a hole is made in the crouch area to allow patients to go to the bathroom. Sexual activity depends on swelling and soreness of the patient. Generally, this takes several days before relationships can be resumed.

Generally, these compression garments have a hole in the crotch to make using the bathroom easier. In terms of sex, it's going to depend on how you heal. Speak with your surgeon. It's typically a couple of days. Best of luck.

Most surgeons supply the garment after liposuction which has a hole in the groin area to allow for bodily functions without removing the garment.  I allow my patients to remove the garment the next day after surgery to change the bandages and shower 2 or 3 days after the procedure.  Resuming normal activity in 3-5 days, depending on pain, swelling and bruising.Good Luck!

many of the garments have an open crotch so that you can use the bathroom. if yours does not, then you will have to take it off. remember this is not a broken arm where it is a huge problem if you take the cast off. the garment just helps with swelling etc. i let my patients resume sexual activities the next day. I also let them take the garment off to shower the next day but each surgeon is different. hopefully you used a board certified plastic surgeon.good luckdavid berman md
