Can IPL pro-longed treatment possibly cause Hypothyroidism or Thyroid Nodules?

I have been getting IPL Lase Genesis treatments for past 2-3 years. Recently I noticed an enlargement in my left side of the neck. I never had any problems with my Thyroid and no such condition runs in my family. I did few tests and discovered I have a 6 cm in length and 3 cm in width Cyst on my left lobe in addition to 2 or 3 solid nodules.

IPL treatments do not reach deep enough through the skin to have any effect on any internal organs.  The mechanism of action for the IPL also does not give rise to any possibility for causing thyroid problems.  Hypothyroidism and thyroid nodules are fairly common and can be due to a variety of other reasons.  I’m sorry to hear of your problems, but at least can assure you that the IPL is not to blame. Intense Pulsed Light should not interfere with your thyroid. That being said, I would discontinue them as there are many aspects of medicine that need further evaluation and study. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Los Angeles

In no way can IPL cause internal disease.  The light doesn't penetrate deeply into the skin, let a long into solid organs.  Best, Dr. Emer.

IPL cannot cause thyroid problems which are very common any way.  I seriously doubt that your treatments with IPL have anything at all to do with your thyroid problems.
