I'm on day 6 after a PDT treatment combined with the IPL laser. My skin peeled yesterday and today but I'm left with the same redness I had on day 2. Will this go away it is not at all subtle.
Answer: IPL The degree of your reaction typically depends on a variety of factors including how much baseline sun damage exists on the skin, the incubation period with the ALA or MAL, and the light sources used to activate the medication. Therefore, redness lasting 6 days or so after a PDT is not uncommon. However, if you have any concerns, best to see your treating physician who can give you a more accurate assessment in person.

Answer: Redness after PDT This is normal depending on how strong the treatment, it can last up to 6 weeks. LED therapy, oral or injectable steroids, and sun protection help to limit this. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Redness after PDT Hi Lyndi. Even though your recovery is longer than is normal, it still looks like you are healing in exactly the way you should. In some cases, we have had caucasian patients experience redness for several weeks. Luckily after another couple days you will be able to wear makeup. Make sure to avoid the sun, but it looks like you are healing fine. Below is an article we wrote on the side effects of PDT, which includes post traumatic hyperpigmentation (PIH).

Answer: Redness after PDT The main thing to consider before you start your treatments is to have a consult with a reputable dermatologist/facial/plastic surgeon. My practice has been considered by Lumenis lasers to be a Lumenis laser center of excellence and I have been a "Lumary" (Lumenis physician teacher) for the last 10 years. Not many physicians have these recognitions. I also help develop and teach my own Rosacea and Melasma protocols for the Lumenis IPL systems to other physicians and technicians.Your treatment looks the way that is supposed to look at this stage. PDT is a powerful and great treatment. Follow the instructions of your physician. Make sure to avoid the sun the next 1-2 weeks.Hope this helps,Dr. Gus Diaz
