I had a breast lift and 300cc implants to restore volume lost after pregnancy and due to aging. My surgeon said he would make my areolas slightly smaller - my right nipple is round and looks good but my left is shaped Like an oval, significantly higher up on my breast, and much larger! Surgeon claims this will settle and even out but I cannot see how that is possible. Did I get a botched nipple???
Answer: Asymmetry One of the risks with these procedures is that the nipples can be asymmetric due to tension on the area during healing. If after a year you still have concerns you can consider a revision to help improve the shape and size of the areola.

Answer: Wait 6 months The situation may improve as you recover, so please wait at least 6 months for initial swelling to go away. If the issue still exists at that time, please discuss with your surgeon.

Answer: Bilateral breast lift with a symmetry of nipple complexes Based on your posted photos, the asymmetry of the nipple complexes couldn’t be revised under local anesthesia. The reason this might’ve happened is sometimes the healing and sometimes the suturing. Best virtual consult with feed to repair or cook correct would be $4000 range. Again best to virtual consult with.

Answer: Plastic surgery outcome An oblong shape of the areola Can happen after a breast lift pad. The gravity can pull the breast down creating this contour. During surgery, the patient is laying on their back and gravitational forces don’t have this pull. Body position has a really big impact on what the breast look like. What looks even and perfect with the patient laying on their back can change significantly later when the patient is standing up. Some plastic surgeons have the anesthesiologist, put the patients in the upright sitting position during surgery for this reason. Most plastic surgeons probably do not. The shape does change overtime and usually for the better. The left breast almost always sits higher on the chest wall than the right side. If the nipple is going to be placed centrally on the breast, then the left nipple should sit higher than the right side. We usually assess breast surgery with patients having their arms down by their side. It’s also not clear if you took the picture using a mirror which would reverse which breast sits higher on the chest wall. Try including before, and after pictures when posting as well as the timeframe of when your surgery was. Revision rates after this procedure is probably around 35%. Simple breast augmentation without a lift has a 25% revision rate and adding a lift makes the procedure substantially more complex. It’s not at all uncommon for patients to need some adjustment down the road. You’re outcome was not botched. Using that term is a bit unfair to those who have been truly disfigured from surgery. Even if the nipple position is uneven beyond the natural body, asymmetry, it should be fairly easy to fix. Either follow up with your provider or schedule in person consultations with other plastic surgeons in your community. Mats Hagstrom MD
