Hello, I went for a mommy makeover 9 months back. I had so much pain because of fluid accumulation for 3 months and after 3 months my stitches opened up automatically and I started leaking fluids for 3 months continuously out of open stitches. My plastic surgen did a revision surgery to fix the problem six weeks back. And again I’m in the same situation. There’s a lot of fluid accumulation I can feel fluids again at the same spot and I’m in so much pain again. Please let me know what I can

Answer: Fluid I would suggest asking for an ultrasound of your abdomen. You may have developed a seroma that has a thick wall around it. If so, the seroma and thick wall will need to be removed so it won't come back and you will need drains for at least 2 weeks to avoid another collection. Please discuss this with your surgeon.

Answer: Draining It’s hard to make an assessment based on the information given. Most plastic surgeons use drains to absorb fluid to minimize the chance of a fluid accumulation after surgery. Most plastic surgeons should be competent at managing a fluid buildup after surgery. Sometimes a drain can be placed after surgery with the help of an interventional radiologist. If you’re not getting the care you need from your current provider than I suggest having a few a second opinion, consultations with other plastic surgeons in your community.Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
