Is expired Juvederm safe to use? (Photo)

Question

Thee days ago, I went to my dr, and she injected some expired juvederm into my right temporal area. She assured that not harm would come front he expired fillers, and she did not charge m. The swelling at the injection site has gone down. But the area around my right eyelid has bruised. And there is also redness and bruising near my right eye crease.Is this a normal reaction? Should I be concerned? And could this be An adverse reaction from the filler being expired?

No, I wouldn't use expired Juvederm. I suggest a follow up with your injector. It's difficult to tell from your picture. While bruising and swelling can be typical, redness may indicate occlusion. Hope this helps.

No, I don't recommend using expired Juvederm. It's difficult to tell from your picture whether this is just bruising. I recommend following up with your injector. If necessary, the filler can be reversed with hyaluronidase. If it's bruising, VBeam and arnica can give improvement. Best, Dr. Emer

You should not allow anyone to inject you with an expired product. Regardless of whether or not you are charged, this is not safe for use. We recommend visiting a board certified provider with cosmetic injectable experience for further follow up.

Please don’t ever let anyone inject anything expired into your face or body.  There is a reason there are expiration dates on these products.  We can not be sure that products that are expired are sterile, uncontaminated, and safe for use.  From your photo it is hard to see what is going on.  Please follow up with your injector immediately to make sure everything is ok.  Honestly, I think both you made a bad choice here.  I wish you all the best.

Your injector should never have used expired product.  Whether she charged you or not, the decision to inject expired product is wrong.  It is not possible to say if your bruising and swelling is related to normal effects of injection, or from the use of the expired Juvederm.
