How much should I expect to pay for rhinoplasty from a resident surgeon/trainee?

If I were to decide to go to resident program at a university to get my rhinoplasty, how much cheaper can I expect the procedure to be? I want a sense of whether the price difference is worth.

Residents clinics can be a way to get lower cost cosmetic surgery, and in some cases may be a good idea.  But not for a rhinoplasty procedure.  Your best bet is to save up until you can have it done by an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon. Good luck.

Hello! on average, rhinoplasty costs $4000-7000. While some hospitals offer discounts for "resident" performed surgery, many have a straight fee for cosmetic surgery. Keep in mind that residents have very little experience and you get what you pay for. Revision surgery to correct mistakes is quite expensive and should only be performed by experienced surgeons. If it it were my nose, I would seek the most qualified and experienced surgeon- and finance. Rhinoplasty is one of the most complicated procedures we perform in the face, and the easiest to do poorly. Experience is crucial to achieving excellent results. Good luck!

During otolaryngology residency, I remember one of our rhinoplasty teachers say to us at a lecture- "You should pay your patients for the first 100 rhinoplasties of your career". We all chuckled, but there is something to be learned from this. Rhinoplasty is a humbling, and challenging operation even after nineteen years in private practice. There is a steep learning curve, and the emotional let down of a failed rhinoplasty may lead to worse dissatisfaction with your nose, and need for further more costly revision surgery. If you're currently having significant dissatisfaction with the appearance of your nose, consider saving funds, and consulting with several rhinoplasty specialists to see what might be best for you. What you want done is completely up to you.Rhinoplasty which typically starts at $5,500 depending on the area you live. To make sure you get the best possible result, the surgeon should perform a detailed exam of the nose and provide a realistic goal that you and your surgeon agree upon. Rhinoplasty are permanent, but with age facial features do change. Find a surgeon and go for a consult. Maybe try and see if the Dr can do photo imaging to show you what he or she can achieve.

The important question is who will be supervising the resident--a senior resident? A young inexperienced faculty member or a senior rhinoplasty experienced faculty member. If it is the latter this could be a wonderful opportunity for you

Hello Monotropauniflora,When choosing to have surgery with a resident or trainee the fees will be dependent on the university.  The cost of the surgeon will usually be less (anywhere from completely complimentary to 75% of the standard surgeon's rate) but the cost of the OR is not discounted.  The best way to find out prices is to seek out a consultation at a nearby university.  I hope this helps and good luck.

The cost of the rhinoplasty is directly proportional to surgeon's fees, operating room time, and anesthesia time. This will vary significantly between hospitals and surgery centers and geographic location. More important than the cost, is the experience of the attending surgeon who will be supervising the resident performing the procedure. Rhinoplasty is a very difficult procedure, and it's important to get it done right the first time.
