I’m 21 y/o female with hypermobile type EDS. Because of the EDS as well as a 40 pound weight loss, I feel like my far has sunken in. I was interested in fillers in the nasolabial folds and possibly tear troughs as well. Is this contraindicated in me or is it possible?
Answer: Is it possible for me to get dermal fillers/facial fillers? I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, hypermobile Thank you for your interesting question. Please see the attached link for more information. Although there are no specific studies out there that I know of because there is not a large amount of evidence, I would certainly exercise extreme caution in patients with EDS. This article said it is not contraindicated, but in my experience, I would always rather be safe than sorry and I would not proceed. But you can discuss this with your chosen plastic surgeon.Hope this helps!Dallas R. Buchanan, MD, FACSOwner & Board-Certified Plastic SurgeonVIVIFY plastic surgery

Answer: Fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Voluma) and Ehlers Danlos Yes, you should be able to get facial fillers. It will take 1-2 weeks for your final results. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Facial Fillers are fine with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Hello and thanks for posting. There is no reason that you would not be a candidate for facial fillers. I have treated 3 patients with EDS with facial fillers and have seen no problems. In facial, one of my aesthetic assistants has EDS and has had multiple, laser, microneedle, facial filler, and Botox treatments over the past several years with no problems. I hope that this information helps and best of luck to you!

Answer: Filler treatment in Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Thank you for your question and sharing your distress over what has happened to your appearance. As you know, Ehlers-Danlos [EDS] is a condition whereby there is accelerated collagen loss in all tissues including skin. While there have been no studies that have specifically addressed the safety of using fillers in EDS, logic would suggest that hyaluronic acid fillers could be used safely. These fillers have ingredients that are a mixture of hyaluronic acid, which is found in most human tissues, and sometimes lidocaine [a numbing agent]. If there is a reaction, they could be dissolved with hyaluronidase injections. That said, the condition itself will continue to cause more collagen loss, so the results may not be as long lasting as you may desire. I hope this was helpful.
