We hate saying never in medicine. However on of the great things about a chemical peel is that it can be extended into the hairline. In contrast, lasers can damage hair. For this reason, laser treatments are stopped at or before the hairline.
Chemical peels really don't cause any hair loss at the hairline and they should be done into the hairline to blend the exfoliating skin so there isn't a demarcation later. Sincerely,David Hansen,MD
Thank you for your question. You should not experience hair loss from light to medium chemical peels unless they are going to deep and creating scar tissue or damaging the follicles. -Best wishes
A light chemical peel will not cause hair loss. If the peel was too deep and caused blistering and scarring, it could lead to damage of the hair follicles in the area with resultant hair loss.
In general, facial peels should not interfere with hair growth. The hair follicle originate deep under the skin, and the peels act on the superficial layers of the skin. There may be a few follicles that are affected mechanically (the rubbing of the skin) but not necessarily chemically.
Dear patient; I believe that a light Jessner peel is quite safe. There is a risk; but I believe it is small.Keep the skin hydrated with topical moisturizers and see your dermatologist if there is any evidence of recurrence.
