Hello! I am 20 and was wondering how I can elongate the smiling corners of my lips to have a more upturned look? Thanks
Answer: Lip Augmentation Candidate -- Injectable Fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Volbella), Fat Grafting to Lips, NovaThreads for Lift I would highly recommend getting a formal evaluation with and treatment from a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist and expert in facial sculpting. Technique is the key to a successful lip augmentation with fillers, so you'll want to see someone meticulous. An experienced physician will be able to determine which filler, how much filler, and which technique will give you the subtle result you're looking for. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Lip lift Unfortunately, you have not provided photographs. A lip lift does 4 things: shortens the distance between your nose and upper lip, increases the mucosa of the upper lip, increases the incisor show and pulls up the corners. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: Lip augmentation Dear potatohead8, I perform a lot of lip injections with fillers such as juvederm and it works great. Many times I need to put more in one side than the other to attempt to even out the vermillion border (The red line of the lip). This helps provide more symmetry at times. For patients looking for a more long lasting result, I recommend fat grafting. That is, using your own bodies fat to make your lips naturally look more shapely. The bonus is that the results last many many years. In general, I avoid using permanent prosthesis because I find that the lips are such dynamic and sensitive structures, the end result is not natural. Answer: Filler and neuromodulator Dermal fillers can subtly increase the overall length of your lips and also help support the corners of the mouth to give them that upturned look. Neuromodulator (like Botox or Dysport) can also help by temporarily relaxing the muscle that pulls the corners of the mouth down.

Answer: Depressor angui oris The only procedure I know of to attempt this is the weaken the muscle the pulse the corner of your mouth down and in. That muscle is called the depressor anguli Oris. (Latin for pulling down the corner of your mouth). Weakening this muscle with Botox causes the opposing muscles to exert force in the opposite direction of the weakened muscle. From first-hand experience it does not have a major impact on static expression but during dynamic facial expression it will widen the corners of the mouth. In other words with a neutral expression it will not lift the corners of the mouth or widen it but when you speak or smile the corners of the mouth widen. It does not lift the corners of the mouth as much as others claim. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
