Neck lift technique - pros of incisions in front of ears instead of behind? (Photos)

I’m 40 years old and lost 30 pounds about three years ago. I then had chin lipo with renuvion one year ago. I’m unhappy with the loose skin beneath my chin and where my chin meets my neck. I consulted with a surgeon who said that she would do incisions in front of my ears and then around the top of my ears and behind into the hairline. Curious about this choice rather than her going under the ear and then behind? I’m also nervous because she barely has any online reviews, tho her credentials are amazing and she also does cleft palate surgery at Shriners. looking for some reassurance. She also said I dont need a submental incision because im young and dont have fat there.

Your case is a great example of the different indications for a "mini lift" vs standard face/neck lift. This is often challenging because each surgeon has a different definition of what a "mini lift" actually is to them. In my practice, the mini lift utilizes a much smaller incision just around the ear lobe and behind the ear without bringing it up in front of the ear or back down the posterior neck. I think you are a great candidate for this, as I don't appreciate any significant soft tissue fullness or prominent submandibular gland that would need a deep neck lift. Your jawline and neck are already excellent, so I think just a bit of tightening of that excess skin/platysma at the cervicomental angle would lead to a great result. As always, I think the best option is to discuss theses questions with your surgeon and make sure you have a very thorough understanding of exactly what is going to be done. If there is any hesitation or concern, especially in the situation of not knowing much about them, a second opinion is always reasonable, if nothing else to give you confidence in the plan of the original surgeon.

Based on posted photos I recommend virtual consult. I would ONLY use smal in front of of ear and incisions post ear into occipital area (as is the common option). Fee $8,000-$12,000.
