Large lymph node on right side of nipple 2 years after breast augmentation. Should I be concerned?

I had saline breast augmentation two years ago and for the past five months have noticed a large bump by the right side of the nipple. The radiologist thought it was a lymphnode, however the plastic surgery’s office says this is not common. Should I be concerned? Thanks so much!

There are no lymph nodes next to your nipple unless you have absolutely no breast tissue. Please see your plastic surgeon and get a biopsy if needed.

What you are experiencing is not common after breast augmentation and further investigation is indicated to ensure the lump is benign.  I encourage you to visit your surgeon or the physician you see for breast health for an examination.  A mammogram, ultrasound, or other test may be needed.

A "large bump" adjacent to the nipple after breast augmentation is not "normal" and may be caused by obstruction of a glandular structure, related or unrelated to your surgery, or may represent something more ominous. Your plastic surgeon, who performed your examination, apparently feels it is benign after some type of imaging procedure was performed.  As there is a difference of opinion as to the nature of the mass between surgeon and radiologist, you may consider requesting a second plastic surgery opinion (and a biopsy if necessary). Without the benefit of an examination, I can't go further.
