Don't get bamboozled by sales talk. We are talking about surgery on the outer corner of the eyes. It will change the corners. Generally the effect of the difference very much depends on what precisely is being done. However, if the surgeon is trying to sell you on their services by telling you that surgery is not going to change your appearance, they are blowing smoke in your direction. First there is no agreed upon procedure that constitutes what a lateral canthopexy is. It is generally an orbicularis muscle sling surgery that requires a skin incision. A suture is placed to support the outer corner. These are weak surgeries that are not likely to address your issues long term. There are also a variety of lateral canthoplasties. Generally these make a deep attachment between the lower arm of the lateral canthal tendon and the orbital rim. It can affect the appearance of the outer corner. Generally that is desirable but it not done well, it can be unsatisfactory. Find honest surgeons who say what they mean and don't use weasel words.
