The term fluid filled tunnel keeps coming up. Each path of the Liposuction Cannula potentially creates a subcutaneous fat void. If it’s done correctly there should be no individual tunnel of potential space, but rather a diffuse network of remaining fat and interstitial tissue space. If there is a true fluid collection, this will not be in the form of a tunnel, but rather a seroma. If you’re having problems after liposuction, then I suggest describing what the problem is and including a few pictures. Delivering consistent quality, liposuction, results is more difficult than most people realize. The number of plastic surgeons who do liposuction well on a consistent basis or in other words have a “mastered the procedure” are relatively few. There are a substantial number of plastic surgeons with proper training, certification, good reputation, years of experience, but still are not particularly good at Liposuction. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of provider selection when it comes to having Liposuction procedurs. In the end, there are only two variables that really matter. The first is the patient’s candidacy for the procedure.(not everybody who gets Liposuction is a good candidate for this operation.) and secondly, the skill and experience provider. Patients who have concerns after surgery should first and foremost follow up with their provider. If they don’t get the care or answers they need, then I suggest scheduling in person second opinion consultations with other providers. Liposuction results are a direct reflection how the procedure was performed combined with the candidacy of the patient having the surgery. Poor results can always be explained by those variables. A patient who is an excellent candidate for Liposuction has the potential for having quality outcomes, but can also be left disfigured if the procedure is not done well. Individuals who are not good candidate for Liposuction are not going have quality outcomes, regardless of who does the surgery. In my opinion, candidacy and provider selection are about equally as important when looking at Liposuction result as a whole. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
