Why some doctors do not like using screws to fixate the implant & what problems could they cause?

The most common problems with the placement of chin implants is migration and malposition. There are no long term problems that I am aware with screw fixation. I prefer screw fixation in all my cases to prevent migration. Screw fixation is far superior to using sutures. I have seen many patients with implants that have migrated. The reason that some doctors don't use screws may be related to their training or willingness to keep a screw fixation kit in their office.

Screws prevent migration of the implant, which can cause other issues. However, a custom implant works best to avoid shifting and, just as importantly, aesthetic issues. More than health-related concerns, subpar aesthetic results with off-the-shelf implants are more common than any other issue.

There's no reason to use permanent screws for a chin implant, since they will be permanently palpable and could result in other issues. In our practice, we use a suture to fix the Chin implant down to the mandible phone in the right position that holds the chin implant in place for six months until it dissolves.
