I am considering dissolving my lip filler. II got my lips filled with 1 syringe of restylane 6 months ago and am concerned my top lip has a duck-like appearance. I am generally self-conscious about my face and am not sure if I’m just imagining that my lips look overfilled and/or unnatural. There is a natural asymmetry to my lips which cannot be corrected with filler. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: Dissolve Hello! My name is Jessica, I am a physician assistant, and one of the providers at Shah Facial Plastics. This is a great question. If you are unhappy with the results of your lip filler, I definitely recommend to dissolve. However, I highly recommend scheduling an in-person consultation in order to better assess your areas of concern and discuss an appropriate treatment plan to help achieve your aesthetic goals. Our office phone number is: (312) 944-0117. I hope this helps and best of luck!

Answer: Yes of course you need this material removed. I personally believe that above all, lips need to look natural and as if they have not had service. That does not mean no filler, it means filler absolutely but natural. Treatments that look like this are very obvious and, in my opinion, do not enhance one's beauty. It is the very opposite of why you should have service. It is important to understand that these fillers persist for a very long time. The golden clinical effect of a treatment may only persist less than a year but don't listen to anyone that tries to tell you that this stuff just disappears. Honestly these hyaluronic fillers persist possibly forever, but certainly more than 10 years. While it is slowly breaking down and service does need topping off, the old filler just adds general volume to the area it is in. That does not help us look our best. For that reason I advocate the removal of as much filler as possible every 3-4 years for my patients. I recommend that you alway want the least amount of filler volume in your face that gets the job done. The enzyme will remove the unwanted filler. Generally this is done as a single service. The treatment with the right dose of enzyme will remove approximately 70% or so of the volume. This is usually enough but occasionally someone will need a second round of enzyme. It does not wreck the skin. That is a persistent falsehood that has been pushed by a few well-meaning individuals who are wrong about this. I have treated thousands with enzyme and see no evidence that it does anything but help. Once the removal has settled, about 7 to 10 days or longer if you happen to bruise (not common), you are ready to be retreated. Restylane is the best product for this service in my opinion. Hope that information helps.

Answer: Lip Filler Based on the photos you provided, you do not seem to have a "duck lip". I recommend trying a different injector and/or using Juvederm filler versus Restylane. However, a well-trained injector can actually fix lip asymmetry with filler.

Answer: Lip filler At six months there probably isn’t much filler left so enzymatically disolving may not make much difference. All people have significant facial asymetry. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
