Is it ok or better to do a separate incision at bottom of neck, if you are having jawline n bottom of neck liposuctioned? Is ok or more difficult to lipo bottom of neck from jawline incision verses incision at bottom of neck?
Answer: Jaw and neck liposuction I find that it is best to make one small incision below the chin for liposuction of the neck and two small incisions in front of the ear to perform liposuction of the jawline (one on each side). It also allows me to perform liposuction of the lower face if needed. This technique is very safe and minimizes the risk to a branch of the 7th nerve that traverses the jawline near the jowl area. It also allows me to use larger cannulas if there is a lot of subcutaneous fat.

Answer: Is it best to have two separate incisions when receiving jaw and neck liposuction Much more information is needed, such as your age, BMI, and a full set of facial and neck photographs from all angles to make a determination about how best to answer your question. It's very important to understand that there are two compartments of fat in the neck, and they are located both above and below the platysma muscle in the neck. Liposuction can only accomplish removal of the fat deposits above the muscle. In our practice, We only make one incision underneath the chin to address these issues. If you have lots of fat deposits at the jawline, then we make two small incisions behind the ears to remove the fat underneath the angle of the mandible.

Answer: How Liposuction is done Each provider will have their own technique for making incisions for liposuction of the chin and neck My personal preference is a single incision under the chin in the midline and two incisions, one on each side below the earlobe The lateral incisions allow the cannula to pass, parallel to the body of the mandible, giving precise, jawline definition. Delivering consistent quality, liposuction results is more difficult than most people realize. The number of plastic surgeons procedure a small minority. Liposuction results are permanent and irreversible. If not done correctly tour, liposuction results are very difficult to correct or improve upon. I cannot emphasize the importance of provider selection when it comes to Liposuction procedurs. Defined the best provider I suggest patients have multiple in person consultations. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before and after pictures of previous patient who had similar facial characteristics to your owner. An experience plastic surgeon should have no difficulty showing you the before and after pictures of at least 50 previous patients. Being shown a handful of pre-selected images, representing the best results of a providers career is insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results look like in the hands of each provider. Continue having consultations until you feel quite certain you found the best provider for your needs. Being bored, certified in plastic surgery with years of experience does not mean somebody has mastered any one single procedure especially not Liposuction. When, in doubt, slow down and schedule more consultations. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
