Once the porcelain veneers are bonded on your teeth, you will not be able to change the color! Veneers need to be redone with an expert ceramist, to incorporate various colors to get what you want.
Your best bet to create a natural smile is to redo the veneers. There is not much you can do but your dentist can polish down surface and leave it rougher where surface stain can build up. Things like tea and coffee can leave residue. Ideally, you need to remove and replace them.I find myself frequently talking to patients about not making their teeth too white. We want to create natural smiles that fits a persons coloring and facial tones that look natural. In general I find patients want bright white (sometimes kitchen sink white) teeth initially but we usually work with them to create a more natural smile. I will sometimes give patients Bright White Temps so they understand it is not a good look. Some patients insist on teeth that are bright white. Replacing veneers is always harder than original placement. Chroma, Value and Hue are the three issues that must be considered when doing cosmetic dentistry. Opacity and Translucency or appearance of translucency is also critical.Somewhere along the line veneers became a commodity where patients began to think all veneers and dentists were the same and patients began to shop price forgetting that cosmetic dentistry is an art.Value is the WHITENESS of a restoration. If you take a can of any color paint and start adding more and more whit paint to it you will continually increase the value or whiteness. Adding grey paint to the color would reduce the value. Teeth naturally have color when you bleach teeth you increase value. Bleaching usually appears natural if not overdone.Hue is the actual color or shade as one would see on a color wheel. (See web reference)Chroma is the intensity and purity of the color. When you look at the color of a tooth before starting a veneer there is an underlying color the more intense the color and lower the vale the harder it is to block out with adding too much opacity. By using colors from the other side other the color wheel you can neutralize colors. Artists and Dentists often utilize the color wheel to understand how to "GREY OUT" undesirable colors . Translucency creates the most natural appearance.Deciding whether to do no preparation veneers or to reduce teeth also affects both color and position. When the teeth are more forward light reflects differently. Surface characteristics also affect appearance . Even perfect veneers can be ruined if the cement is either to high a value or is too opaque, especially white opaque.
Hi:One option is to consume coffee, tea or red wine to slightly stain your new veneers. This may take about 2-6 months.Best,Dr. Maddahi
Hi, thanks for sending your question. The color of the veneers cann't change unless they are redone. However at time due to diets high in caffeine and red wines some staining may occur which may diminish the white appearance. Keep in mind that the final colors are often chosen with the patient and the dentist together and they are often tried in the mouth prior to final cementation and placement. I recommend for you to return to your provider to discuss your concerns and he may be able to help you further. all the best.
Unfortunately there isn’t anything you can do to make them look not as white. From your photo, the other issue is that they don’t have a natural appearance aside from the shade. In order for veneers to look natural, even with a light shade, a highly talented dental ceramist would need to create them. The only predictable alternative for you is to remake the veneers.
If your veneers are porcelain, unfortunately ,we are not able to change the color of the veneers in the mouth once they are bonded to place. Your dentist should have given you a chance to approve the color before he bonded them to place. If he did so, and you gave your approval, then your only choice would be to have the veneers removed and replaced. It would be at his discretion to charge or not to charge. If he did not give you the chance to approve the color, then you have a better chance of negotiating with him to replace them at a lower price or for free. If you do decide to have them replaced, I would recommend first removing just one veneer and having the laboratory make it to the color that you want. The dentist should then try it on, and if you are satisfied and love it, you can proceed with having the other veneers removed and have them made to match the color of the new the veneer that you just approved. The one that was approved should he sent back to the lab so that it can be copied exactly in color. In this way you'll be sure that you get exactly what you want. If you are veneers are made of a resin or composite material, these can be changed in color by staining chair side if done properly. However changing the surface layer, the nearest will never have the Lester that the original veneers did. So most likely you would have to have these replaced also, but it would be easier to do so.
