I want to get the hump on my nose removed & I might possibly have a deviated septum. Because I can't breath welll & the allergies inhaler my ddoctor prescribed doesn't seem to work. But I still have to check that out. I'm a college student & can't afford a Bevely Hills plastic surgeon's price.

Answer: Resident Rhinoplasty If you have insurance then a portion of your procedure may be covered if you are diagnosed with a deviated septum. While USC is a wonderful school and my daughter graduated the Keck School of Medicine there it would not be my choice to proceed with rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty surgery is one of the most difficult surgeries to perform and experience is key in these procedures. I have had a board certified plastic surgeon from USC come to my office to watch me perform rhinoplasty procedures on many occasions. Even though he was a board certified plastic surgeon and an excellent surgeon I will add the majority of his plastic surgery residency and training was not involving rhinoplasty surgery. If you do decide to use a resident it is very important to make sure that the supervising surgeon will be in the surgery the entire case and that he/she is very knowledgeable in rhinoplasty surgery. I reviewed your photographs in an earlier post and you have a very straight forward procedure in the hands of an expert rhinoplasty surgeon. You may want to look into other options of saving your money or finding a surgeon who may take a payment plan. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
