What is the time duration for the final result of otoplasty?

Otoplasty is a surgical technique used to correct prominent and/or asymmetric ears.  Multiple techniques are used depending upon the goals of surgery. This surgery can be performed from childhood through adulthood. Results are immediate and noticeable. Absolute final results are after one year, however, a stable prediction of your final result will be after 3-4 months. In your consultation with your surgeon, make sure you are very specific as to what bothers you about the appearance of each ear.  Ears are complex structures.  There isn't just one technique that addresses each issue. Seek consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon who is experienced with external ear surgery. No, there are different types and approaches to Otoplasty and this is assuming you are limiting your question to the treatment of prominent ears and not other conditions.  Also, your definition of "ful recovery" may differ from others.  In general, if the most common approach is used with the use of sutures and no resection of cartilage, I think 5 or 6 months is a good estimate of having resolution of the swelling and relaxation of the ears.  It is impossible to say with certainty that it would be 5, 6, 7 or 12 months but for the most part the majority of healing should be complete at 6 months.
