I know that Sculptra is not recommended for under the eye but my friend's term wants to micro needle & induct the filler topically. I have had it injected and love it (in my temple). However, I am dubious at this delivery method. I don't see how Sculptra can absorb into the area and be as effective as an injection. How can you control where the filler goes? Please advise.

Answer: Sculptra microneedling under the eye Even though there is at least one study to show that the sculptra (PLLA) granules did penetrate the skin after microneedling and topical application, the quantity and effect of such purported penetration has never been shown to be effective (yet). Collagen induction via Sculptra lasts for years and if there are nodules formed from excessive collagen production they will be difficult to impossible to dissolve, especially on the lower eyelid. In my opinion, the use of Sculptra in this way should be considered experimental and inappropriate to offer in the clinical setting unless the patient is fully informed and part of a formal study.

Answer: Topical Sculptra After Microneedling Thank you for your question. While the topical placement of Sculptra after microneedling (collagen induction therapy) is the latest fad, there is no clinical proof of any effect thus far. From a pathophysiology stand point, this procedure does not make sense. Best of luck,Suneel Chilukuri, M.D.Houston, Texas (Facebook @RefreshDermatology)
