Can swelling cause the nose tip to be more downturned than the final result will be?

Question

I have seen and heard of noses that seemed more upturned very early early after rhinoplasty. But is it ever the case that the nose can appear more *downturned* after rhinoplasty as a result of swelling? Is it possible that as swelling resolves the nostrils will become slightly more exposed? Thanks!

Hello,In the first few weeks swelling tends to over-project and rotate upward the nasal tip. This early swelling subsides relatively quickly though. The long term swelling we talk about so much that takes months to years to subside is actually in the tip, and does not really have an impact on tip position or rotation. Best of luck!

Hello,Without any pictures it is hard to distinguish whether you are having swelling or not. The tip of the nose can swell until a bulbous shape post-op. It usually takes 1-3 years for the swelling to fully go down after a rhinoplasty. The tip takes the longest time to heal and mold to the new framework because it is the thickest skin of the nose. Thank you for your post. The amount of swelling and the area in which the swelling will be most prevalent depends on what was corrected during your rhinoplasty procedure. Swelling in the tip of the nose will take the longest to resolve and can take up to 1-2 years to see your final result. It is difficult to assess the situation further without photos.
