Is it okay to remove the stent 4 weeks post-op?

Just a quick question, I just had my cast off of my nose today and because I am unable to return to Korea to get the stent out the doctor said I could wait 3 more weeks to remove the stent inside when I can return, is this normal? He also recommend a local clinic that can remove it 2 weeks after which I am considering but feel more comfortable if it’s the same surgeon. What does the stent do anyways?
