Had a bad split lip, canine tooth went right through it and caused a gaping wound. The wound edges were never properly approximated, the blood clot that formed in between obviously was not a fine line.I don't know, maybe I just scar badly but from what i've read online deep gaping wounds that heal without sutures don't heal that well. The scar is a bit wide and lumpy, with the inner scar tissue making my lip look bloated.Consulted a PS that said Steroids wont help much as scar tissue is already soft.

Answer: Lip scar revision Thank you for your photos. The reason your lip has such a large lump is because the lip had to fill in the gap with scar to heal the lip. A lip scar revision can help remove the scar tissue and allow your normal lip tissue to be realigned and heal properly with minimal scar. You will look more swollen and lumpy for several weeks after the revision similar to having your initial wound except after a revision, once the swelling is gone and the scar softens, you should expect a more flat contour and less noticeable bump in that area. Hope this helps! Johnson C. Lee, MD Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon
