Is it safe to have liposuction and a breast augmentation done at the same time?

Thank you for the question. These two procedures are often combined without increased risk of surgical or anesthesia complications if you are in good health. I use intravenous sedation by an anesthetist for these procedures with no untoward effect over 20 years. Doing liposuction under local only, can be misleading considering the safety profile. Depending on the volume of liposuction, the concentration of lidocaine used by your surgeon in the tumescent solution you can reach toxic levels of lidocaine (8-10 hours later, when you are home and not under medical supervision) which can even lead to seizures and ultimately death. This actually did happen in Seattle at a branded liposuction company promoting safe liposuction under local anesthesia. Liposuction results are highly dependent on the surgeon's skills and understanding of the underlying static and dynamic muscle anatomy. same.You just want to make sure if you
are doing liposuction on the back that you do that prior to the augmentation
because you do not want to be laying on your tummy after the implants are
placed.It is best to follow-up with
your Plastic Surgeon for more specific questions.

Plastic surgeons perform breast augmentation and liposuction in the same setting daily.  It is very safe to perform both procedures at the same time under general anesthesia.  Find a board certified plastic surgeon, by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, who can perform both surgeries for you at the same time in a safe setting.  I hope this helps and best wishes. 

I have done this procedure many times with myself and a plastic surgeon. I do HI def body contouring and the surgeon will do the lift/implant at the same time.  If only fat transfer is needed I will perform that procedure. I suggest you see an expert who works with other surgeons at the same time to get your best results and can formally evaluate you to see if you are a candidate. Best, Dr. Emer

Yes I do these two procedures all the time.  Anesthesia selection is important.  I would NEVER do general for these cases.  Danger is in anesthesia.  Proper sedation is the key.  Excellent results and safe for both guaranteed in my hands.

Yes, both breast augmentation and liposuction can be performed safely at the same time under General Anesthesia.  I prefer doing both procedures together under general Anesthesia that way it is less traumatic for the patient and allows me to focus completely on the surgery.

Non-surgeons who perform liposuction often tout the benefits of avoiding general anesthesia because they aren't able to obtain surgical privileges in an operating room and don't have the option to use general anesthesia. Liposuction can be done without general anesthesia by those experienced in that method. I believe that most plastic surgeons, however, perform liposuction under general anesthesia, which is the most comfortable and expedient manner, allowing the surgeon to be as aggressive as needed without undue discomfort. For healthy patients, general anesthesia is currently felt to be quite safe, especially if the procedure doesn't last more than 5-6 hours. Combining liposuction with a breast augmentation is very common, and adding liposuction doesn't increase the health risks much unless a very large volume of fat will be removed. It usually makes sense to combine the procedures rather than have them separately. Best of luck!

The two procedures can be done safely at the same time under General Anesthesia.I usually do these under two separate preps. do the liposuction part first specially when I need to place the patient in different position and then re-prep and re-drape for the breast Augmentation. I prefer doing both procedure together under general Anesthesia that way less traumatic for the patient and allows me to put my 100% focus on the operation without worrying about the airway situation. However I do know many plastic surgeons do these operations under local with sedation and get very good results.
