Should polysporin make my nose worse before making it better? After closed rhinoplasty - had surgery 48hrs ago.

My packaging was removed this morning. They applied polysporin inside the nostrils with a q-tip. I put some in this afternoon and then tonight again.I realized that after application (a lot of gel) my inner nose burns slightly and then it starts to eventually drip. I put on the gauge strip afterward to “catch” it. However I’ll be more stuffy for a while after, and it feels like there is mucus at the back of my throat (wanting to swallow type feeling). Is this normal?Before getting better?

Hello! I would consult with a qualified physician and have an in person evaluation to better examine your concern. You have had a tiny bump on your nose for only a week now so it might get better with time.

The use of injectable steroids may not be advisable for the treatment of normal nasal swelling after rhinoplasty, even in those with thick and oily nasal skin. All swelling reduces in time, and follow-up visits with your surgeon may be helpful and reassuring for you. Hope this helps! Dr Joseph
