Propecia is too risky for me after having had male breast cancer. Rogaine has mixed reviews that indicate it could make it worse and even cause your hair to fall out. Should I just accept eventual baldness? If not, how many times realistically will I have to go back and do another transplant? Whats the average for those who can't take propecia and rogaine?

Answer: Propecia and Hair Transplant- Dr. Alan Feller- New York Hair Transplants have nothing to do with Propecia. So that is not a contraindication to having a procedure. By definition hair transplant donor area is DHT resistant, therefore the use of a DHT blocker (Propecia) is not necessary. At best Propecia will allow the native hairs in the recipient area to live longer than they otherwise should, but that's it. The hair transplant itself has no need for Propecia.

Answer: Propecia and Hair Transplant Using hair loss medications such as Propecia and Rogaine is optional after a hair transplant surgery. We always emphasize of using them after the procedure so the patients don't experience shock loss. That is when the hair prone to hair loss will fall out faster due to the stress of hair transplant procedure and post op inflammatory period. If you are unable to take hair loss medications, you need to be prepared for losing your hair and getting to the end stage of your baldness sooner. If your surgeon plan for it properly, you still can enjoy a full head of hair or at least some improvement to your hair depends of the stage of your hair loss. Thanks,
