My dissolvable stitch fell out 5 days after nasal sill incision. Will this negatively impact the results?

Question

There were 2 stitches in each nostril, one permanent on the outside, and one dissolvable on the inside. My PS removed the permanent ones on the outside 5 days after the procedure, and the dissolvable one fell out from the left nostril the same day. My PS said I will be okay as long as I don't pick at my nose, but I am still concerned. Will this negatively impact my results and allow my nostril to stretch out (potentially unevenly because the dissolvable stitch in the right nostril is still intact)?

The use of dissolving sutures has the advantage that one does not need to remove them.  How long they last is a different story.  They could last 5, 10 even 15 days.  If your plastic surgeon believes that the suture falling out at 5 days is OK , then I see no reason to be concerned.  Follow the instructions, do not pick at the area and you should be just fine.

It is unlikely that your wound will open up even if one of the deep sutures fell out prematurely.  If the wound did open up your surgeon should be able to repair it simply in the office.  Just continue to follow up with your plastic surgeon and follow their instructions.
