Hi, I have two scar on my face from surgery 9 months ago that I'm happy with as they're both flat and white. However, one of the scar still has like a lump "under" the scar meaning it still feels hard. How can I get rid of this? I don't want to do surgery again since the scar itself looks really good. I won't take that risk. Could fractional laser help with this? Or will it go away with time (years?) ? It's not visible, but I can feel it. Thank you!

Answer: Scar Treatment, Laser Treatment of Scars The treatment of scars varies depending on the scar. This can best be determined by examining your scar. Some thick scars will improve with injections and silicone gels applied to the surface. Others may benefit from treatment with a vascular laser or with a fractional laser. Some should have a scar revision procedure. Other scars, such as depressed scars may be treated with injection of fillers or fat transfer.

Answer: Lumpy Scar If your only concern is the hardness of the scar, there is no need for any surgical treatment. Well placed interlesional injections of 20% Kenalog will soften the scar with only one to three sessions at 4-6 week intervals. If the steroid is injected under the area of firmness into the fat, a depression could result. Make sure your doctor understands that you know about this beforehand. Less than 20% Kenalog will probably be inadequate.
