How long after injection with Radiesse can necrosis occur?

Question

I had injections with Radiesse ca two months ago, into my nasolabial folds. Since yesterday, I have a small swelling and quite severe pain on my right nostril, which has turned a bit red in colour. Could it be necrosis or something else related to the injections? Shall I do anything about it?

This may be related to the injection. Necrosis or
breakdown of skin occurs early after injections. However, biofilm or
hypersensitivity reactions can occur later. Make sure to follow up with your
provider to have the area evaluated.

Necrosis after a Radiesse treatment would occur within a matter of days.  Necrosis is not something that would occur 2 months after the injection.  I would recommend contacting the physician who treated you so that you can be examined to try and determine what might be causing the swelling and pain that you are having.  It most likely is not due to the Radiesse.

This is not necrosis which will be evident within a day or 2 or the injection. This might be an infection which needs to be evaluated by the person who injected you. This might require antibiotics.

Thank you for your question. Necrosis would happen immediately or shortly after injection, it would not occur months later. Necrosis comes from occlusion or compression of the arterial blood supply to a tissue. Initially there is a loss of blood and oxygen , the area becomes quite pale then darkens and becomes necrotic over the next few days. If you had an occlusion or compression the necrosis would have occurred 2 months ago. this is unlikely to be movement of the filler and most likely is a new process either a developing acne or pustule but likely unrelated to your fillers. I would recommend you see a medical professional for a genuine evaluation

Necrosis occurs within 24 hours of filler, delayed reactions like this maybe due to other reactions, such as hypersensitivity, infection, biofilm, or maybe unrelated.
