Can I get a lip lift while I still have filler left in my lips?

Question

Four months ago I got juvederm injected into my lips. I want to schedule a lip lift and would like to know if I should dissolve the filler first or is possible to do the procedure as is? There is still quite a bit of filler remaining. Will this affect the outcome? Thank you.

Hello Brooke66,Thanks for your question.A lip lift is typically used to shorten the height of the lip from the base of the nose to the vermillion border of the lip.  Various incisions can be used for this.  In my opinion, you don't really have to wait for the filler to completely dissolve before having a lift as filler placement really doesn't change lip length, only lip volume.  If you have a thin lip and get a lip lift, you will still need filler to get the lip volume you want.Good luck,Dr. Shah

Thank you for your question. I do not ask my patients to wait until the filler is completely gone before doing the lip lift procedure. I do try to set expectations that they may have diminished lip volume once the filler is completely gone. If they like the fuller appearance, then they may continue to need fillers after the lip lift procedure for maintenance.

You do not need to remove the fillers unless the lips are very asymmetric or have other irregularities.  I would suggest finding someone who performs lip lifts very often and without scarring.  it's an easy procedure to do and has amazing outcomes but you when performed correctly.
