Ipl face burn- how long is the healing time and will there be long term damage? (photo)

Your photos suggest that either too much energy was used or the treatment was through a bit of a tan.  When there is recent tan, the superficial layers with pigment really pick up the energy and can toast the skin a bit.  With your skin type, this should resolve over time.    It also appears to me that there was very poor overlap of the treatment, giving you that fan shaped distribution of burn marks.  Effective IPL/BBL treatments are totally dependent not only on proper setting but perfect overlap and layering of energy so that there are no gaps in the treated area.   In a good corrective BBL treatment all patients receive four passes with various filters.  We never see such isolated distinct areas of single treated spots.  

This should heal without any long-term consequences.  Darkening may or may not follow the redness you are experiencing.  It likely resulted from the fluence being set too high.  Aloe vera will help but make sure to keep sunscreen on as well.  Good luck.Best,Payman Kosari, MD, FAAD
