Will insurance cover a mid face lift for angular cheilitis? (Photo)

Question

Unhappy about a pouch of tissue next to mouth. I have had buccal removal and lipo in the area to remove as much fat but still protrudes. I had Botox fillers but unhappy with result so want surgery next, like a mid face lift to simulate the photo where I'm pulling and flattening the area. Also in pain from it. I have angular cheilitis from droopy mouth corners and it's been a source of pain and frustration for years for me. Will insurance cover? Don't care about scars. I just want my pain fixed

Unlikely for an insurance company to cover a rejuvenation procedure for angular cheilitis.  Some international insurance companies cover cosmetic procedures but in the US, most only cover specific procedures.  Best Dr. Anil Shah

I seriously doubt that a mid face lift will be covered by insurance.  If you are expecting your situation with the mid face lift I think you will be quite disappointed.

A facelift doesn't seem like the right path for treatment of angular cheilitis. I would seek a second opinion. There are several other medical options for that.  Facelifts aren't typically covered by insurance unless there is significant facial paralysis, and even then it is difficult to get covered.  Good luck!

Generally insurance companies cover non-experimental treatments. There are a number of potential causes of angular cheilitis. Lifting the cheek is not likely to be a solution. There is no systematic literature supporting this approach. For that reason, what you are looking for is not likely to be a covered benefit.  Personally, I am dubious that a midface lift will accomplish what you are looking for and has a very real possibility of permanently harming your appearance.

Insurance questions are best addressed to your insurance company. They may assert a procedure is Medically necessary but not a covered expense- in which case they will not pay. Specifically, I do not see any basis for an insurance company to even consider your Cosmetic Procedures.

and you can expect your insurance to deny any attempts to pursue cosmetic procedures to correct your concerns.  You will need to have proof of your issues and that requires seeing your primary physician for documentation and inability to correct this through medical management.  And if you have any any lip enhancements, you will have to stop any augment procedures to your perioral area so that your 'natural' state can be identified and addressed.

Midface lift is not a standard treatment for angular chelitis and it is unlikely that it will be covered by insurance. It is unlikely to help your chelitis and may possibly make your symptoms worse. Hope this helps.
