I have continuous swelling/infection on one side of face after filler (under eye Volbella, nasolabial fold Vollure). Advice?

It initially started when I popped a pimple. Immediately bad swelling, redness, caused granuloma. For past six months, it would swell anytime I got a blemish in the area. I had hylanex 7 times & it improved the current swelling but it always swells up again - getting it treated now w steroid (is working), but can I have filler again in the future after this is solved? I had filler in my chin, upper cheekbone for 2 years, that was never a problem. Now I fear if I get filler again this will happen

Based on your description, you may have a biofilm after your HA treatment. Since HA is a large sugar molecule in a gel form, it's possible your pimple (skin infection) seeded your HA with infection, and this may take many weeks to clear with appropriate therapy. Microdroplet Silikon1000 is a permanent filler that is not associated with necrosis, blindness, infection, or biofilm. Wishing you well moving forward. Dr Joseph

Hi Fab,It sounds as if you have a biofilm reaction to Volbella/Vollure (Vycross hyaluronic acid products.)  The inflammation and nodules should be treated with the proper antibiotic for 6 weeks.  I would advise to not have any Vycross products injected in the future.  I would use any other filler most cautiously.  Good luck and be well.Dr. P

It sounds like the filler became seeded with bacteria from popping your pimple.  This will take a long time to clear. Removing the product, treating with antibiotics and steroids is appropriate.  You should not consider dermal fillers until this has cleared up completely.
