I got hit on my nose yesterday not extremely hard I didn't bleed or nothing like that but I got hit hard enough for it to look kinda like a dorsal hump.will it go away by itself ?
Answer: Bump on the nose after nasal injury It is possible that the bump will go away on its own. After small nasal injuries it is not uncommon to have some swelling which can create a new "bump" on the bridge. Swelling will resolve and as long as there is no permanent injury to the bone or cartilage the bump should resolve. If you have any concerns, seek a consultation with a nasal surgery expert for more specific advice. I hope this information is helpful for you.Stephen Weber MD, FACSDenver Facial Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Can a hard hit in the nose cause a permanent dorsal hump or will it go away by it self? Thank you for your question. It is most likely just swelling that will resolve itself with time. It is very unlikely that the shape of your nose would change permanently unless you suffered a significant injury to fracture the nasal bones or cartilages of the nose. From your description that does not sound like it was the case. If you have ongoing concerns you should seek a medical review. Best of luck!RegardsDr Guy Watts

Answer: Trauma to the nose - dorsal hump The nose is a very resilient organ -- trauma to the nose on the dorsum often causes a temporary bump which may last for weeks or even months. Part of this depends on whether or not the injury is to the soft tissues or if you actually fractured the bones of your nose. If you do not notice obvious deformity of the overall shape of your nose, not having difficulty breathing, bleeding, or significant bruising, then you should ice your nose as much as possible to bring the swelling down as quickly as possible. I have found putting crushed ice cubes in the fingers of a glove and laying that over the nose a great way to apply cool compresses without too much pressure on the nose - I have my rhinoplasty patients do this after their procedures and it helps bring the swelling down fairly quickly.

Answer: Trauma to the nose Trauma to the nose and causing displaced or non-displaced nasal fracture. The upper lateral cartilages can also become fractured off of the nasal bones. This can result in the creation of the dorsal hump. Dorsal hump is composed of both bone and cartilage must be shaved down in order to remove it. Osteotomies of the nasal bones were then required to straighten and narrow them. Also important to visit an ENT/ facial plastic surgeon to evaluate the internal and external portion of the nose with x-rays to determine the extent of the injury. Answer: Trauma and nasal bump Sometimes a hit to the nose may cause swelling and it can look like a bump but then it goes down. If you fracture the nose from a very hard hit, then a bump can be permanent.
