I'm a hairstylist. How soon can I return to work after a tummy tuck, Brazilian but lift and liposuction?

Patients can return to light activities almost immediately after surgery, normal activities 2 weeks after surgery, and vigorous exercise 4 weeks after surgery.  We usually experience a slow steady improvement for 3 months or so after surgery.Combination procedures can give powerful results but SAFETY is KEY.  You definitely have to choose your surgeon correctly and make sure that he/she has the training and experience to meet your goals with absolute safety.  Don’t settle for less than a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with specialized expertise in this procedure.

For my patients having a tummy tuck and BBL procedure, I recommend they take 10-14 days off of work, 3 weeks off of cardio at the gym, and 6 weeks off of weight training and yoga exercises. As a hairstylist and standing on your feet most of the day, I would recommend taking the full 2 weeks off, then starting out with half days and working your way up to full days. I hope this helps!

Hello, You will need approximately 2 weeks to recover, If you have the ability to take 3 weeks off, by all means, take extra week just in case there are any complications or set backs. For a combined tummy tuck with liposuction and fat transfer to the buttock you will likely need to take about two weeks off from work. Since I presume you will be standing most of the time at work, this will work to your advantage as well.Best wishes,Dr.Bruno

Hello,It really depends on the length and extent of the surgery, with liposuction being the most difficult to recover. The surgery as you described it could take 10 to 14 days if only 2 liters of liposuction was taken, or 3 weeks or more if 5 liters of liposuction was taken. Plan at least 2 weeks, and preferably 3. 

Great question!  Everyone heals differently but I would say around 2 weeks before going back to work.  It will take at least 1 week before you will be standing up straight and walking fairly normally, but because you are doing a combination of procedures it maybe 2 weeks before you feel better and ready to go back to work.  Again, everyone's pain tolerance is different and everyone feels better at different times so it could be a week or two longer but I don't think more than a month.  I would speak with your surgeon and get his/her recommendations.Best of luck and hope this information helps!- Dr. Roger Tsai   @DrRogerTsaiBoard Certified Plastic Surgeon

I would discuss this with your surgeon but I would recommend 2 weeks if you were my patient.  After that you can go back to work but it would likely be tough if you were to do 8 hour days.  Once you are 6 weeks out, you would be able to resume full activity and do anything you wanted.Hope that helps

During your postoperative care, your plastic surgeon will provide specific instructions for your individual recovery. Following these instructions can help reduce post-surgery complications as well as speed up recovery time.

Recovery time will vary greatly with the patient and the skill of the surgeon. Most patients can return to work at a sedentary job within a week or two. You may want to gradually return to your previous schedule depending upon how you feel.  You may be hunched over for several weeks following the TT.  Strenuous activity can be resumed in 6 weeks.  It is imperative that you follow your PS's post-operative protocols regarding sitting and wearing a compression garment for a successful recovery.
