Eliminate spider veins on nose before or after rhinoplasty/septoplasy?

Question

I still have over 3 month until my surgery (dorsal hump removal and improving nasal airway). Would it be safe do eliminate the spider veins (they are not many) on my nose before surgery as i would not like for them to get worse due to the surgery?

Thank you for your question. If you have three months to go, before the surgery, you could consider having them treated now. However, keep in mind that they will potentially need to be treated again after the surgery. Sometimes, the inflammatory processes associated with healing after surgery lead to more vessels being formed.In addition, another thing to keep in mind, is the fact that you will likely need more than one treatment for the vessels. Thank you for your question. Typically, nasal telangiectasias (aka spider veins) respond very well to laser treatments that target red lesions and it is fine to have a laser treatment 3 months before a rhinoplasty/septoplasty. It would be best to avoid laser treatments to the nose 6-8 weeks before your surgery and 6-9 months after your surgery, depending on how you are healing.

It would be safe to treat the spider veins now, but they may require retreatment after surgery because the healing processes that occur may result in their recurrence. If they do recur, however, they are generally not as noticeable.

If the spider veins are located on the sides of the nose near the cheeks, they can be cauterized at the time of the surgery. If the spider veins are located over the tip and bridge of the nose where the surgery is going to be performed, they should be cauterized a month before or a month after the procedure.
