Dog bite in upper lip. Any suggestions for my scar? (Photo)

I was bitten by a dog in the face 5 days ago, left with two marks.... and I am worried about eventual scarring. I got stitches. Is there anything else I can do to make sure not to get any scars?

Our treatments use combination therapy to improve the epidermis and dermis for most deep scars. The options available for acne scars depend on the character of your scars, in terms of topography and contour. We see atrophic and hypertrophic acne scars, as well as scars that have hypo and hyperpigmentation. We begin each scar evaluation with an assessment of scar quality and subtype. Our main concern is rebuilding collagen and that is why we use a HIDEF protocol that includes combination therapy. Morpheus 8, scar subcision, fibrous release, fractional laser, CO2 laser, Thulium laser, PDL Vbeam laser, and fractional resurfacing can be used in addition to TCA Cross and chemical peels to further improve skin. Patients should start Melarase AM and Melarase PM for active hyperpigmentation. Always begin with a consultation to decide whether early subcision should be started.

Hello and thank you for your question! Based on your picture, it looks like once the scar fully heals a great option for you would be Co2 laser resurfacing.  I would recommend waiting about a month for it to heal and getting laser treatments sooner rather than later for best results.  In the meantime make sure to keep the area clean to prevent infection and don't forget to apply sunscreen as the sun can darken scars!

you need proper skincare now, then in 3 weeks fraxel or co2 ablative laser to prevent long term scarring. see someone immediately so you do not have permanent scarring or discoloration.  Best, Dr. Emer.

What we don't know is if the scaring will be enough once healed to justify breaking down these wounds and suture the lip back together. From the picture, I suspect that with healing you will have some scaring but this could be subtle. I recommend consulting either a general plastic or facial plastic surgeon for a formal assessment.
