Will deep creases from compression garment go away? (Photos)

Question

I recently received liposuction in the abdomen, back and flanks. Unfortunately the compression garment created a DEEP crease on my side. At my 4 week check up, my surgeon was quite alarmed at the indentation the garment had made. At the time of my check up he aggressively tried to release the crease, but it was as hard as a rock. Will I need additional surgery to get this crease out? Surgeon is recommending lymphatic massages, but I feel like this will have little improvement.

Hello,What an unpleasant surprise. As long as it's hard, it's in a state of evolution, so lymphatic massage twice a week, in conjunction with daily massage for the next month or two. DO NOT invest in unproven therapies like hyperbaric oxygen or energy based systems (Vanquish/Venus Legacy, etc.). Best of luck!

Thank you for your question.  I agree with your surgeon to start with Lymphatic massage and then do some at home massage.  This will help break down some of the scar tissue, increase the blood flow going that area.  I would suggest to continue with your surgeons recommendations and follow up with them.  Best of luck.

For liposuction after care, I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. However, a revision may be needed to improve the crease. Best, Dr. Emer

Thank you for your question and your photos. You should follow your surgeon's instructions and massage the area and continue to check up with them regularly. If no improvement is made, surgery may be necessary to fix the area. Good Luck.

I would follow your surgeons recommendation as massaging may help things out.  You will have to give it some time to allow the tissues to soften.  It is difficult to say now if you would need additional surgery or not.Hope that helps.

In my experience, garments do not cause such deep creases, however it is difficult to tell for sure without an in-person examination. That said, it is still relatively early and often irregularities relax with time and scar tissue matures. Be sure to express your concerns to your surgeon. Best of luck to you.

I am of the belief that compression garments do not cause changes in liposuction results. Your outcome is highly unusual. Did you take off your compression garment during the four weeks?  Did you see this crease before the four weeks?  Perhaps if your compression garment was very tight and the skin was forced to be folded and itself and the compression garment was not taking off for a long time something like this could happen. Add four weeks I don't think massage will have any impact  I would give this six months before attempting any surgical intervention  My guess is it will improve substantially on its own but May and leave some in perfection. Continue following up with your doctor. Best, Mats Hagstrom M.D.

Massage may help the crease. I would certainly try that.  Also, place something under the garment to help avoid creases such as a folded hand towel or form.
