I need some functional things done to help my breathing, but also want cosmetic rhinoplasty. The repairs I need are nasal valve (cartilage graft), turbinate reduction, senechiae, and I have a deviated septum. The total Surgery including cosmetic plus those repairs has been quoted at 11-13,000 by Beverly Hills physicians. I have an HMO insurance through LA Care. If I use a surgeon in network, what’s an estimate cost?? Does anyone have experience with the insurance covering a portion and anesthesia time?

Answer: Cost of rhinoplasty partially covered by insurance? Correction to a deviated septum to help breathing is called a septoplasty, and the aesthetic side of things is called rhinoplasty. We perform septorhinoplasty often in my practice so you can breathe better and achieve the aesthetic results you're looking for too. In some cases insurance will cover part of the septoplasty portion of the insurance, but it's important to establish medical necessity. Every insurance is different, and the HMO's are very strict about staying within your network for the best coverage. If you can get a referral and authorization for the septoplasty portion your insurance has a better chance of paying for it. Good luck!

Answer: Rhinoplasty cost Cosmetic rhinoplasty, i.e., rhinoplasty to change the appearance of the nose, is frequently performed at the same time as functional rhinoplasty, i.e., rhinoplasty to improve the function of the nose. Insurance companies will pay for functional rhinoplasty, but not cosmetic rhinoplasty. Should you decide to do a cosmetic procedure at the same time as a functional procedure, you will be charged an additional fee by the surgeon as well as the operating room and the anesthesia provider for the cosmetic elements of the procedure. This cost varies from person to person and from practice to practice, but can lead to a significant savings for the patient in the range of $1500-$5000. Seek out an experienced facial plastic surgeon who frequently performs rhinoplasty for an in person evaluation and to discuss the specifics of your situation.

Answer: The Reality of Insurance and Rhinoplasty Hello,Because modern rhinoplasties that involve structural supporting cartilage grafts require septoplasty, it is really part of the 'cosmetic' portion of the surgery, and to bill insurance for this is, in my opinion is fraud. The other potential part of the 'functional' surgery known as turbinate reduction requires about ten minutes of operative time, not worth insurance billing. Through airway studies conducted over the last decade or so, we now know that form and function go hand in hand, and the things we do to make your nose prettier also make airflow better, e.g. spreader grafts, lower lateral batton grafts, lower lateral cartilage repositioning, rim grafts, and internal valve grafts. Finally, for a surgeon to reduce his cosmetic fee because he is billing insurance is also fraud, because in essence, the insurance company is supplementing his cosmetic fee. Be sure your surgeon is an ABPS certified/ASAPS member surgeon (or AAFPRS equivalent) who specializes in rhinoplasty. Best of luck!

Answer: What is the cost of a rhinoplasty at the portion is covered by insurance? Medical necessity must first be documented with the functional component to improve airflow through the nose. Preauthorization with your insurance most also occur prior to the surgery. Co-pays and deductibles will also be associated with this functional surgery. A rhinoplasty is considered cosmetic, and must be paid for by the patient. The cosmetic component of the surgery will take much longer than the functional component. There will be differences in cost based upon your insurance plan, geography, and whether or not the surgeon is in-network, or out of network. Choose quality over Price, since the nose is the most central feature on your face, and you want to get it done right the first time.
