Had a breast lift 16 days ago. I am wondering if this is normal healing? (Photo)

It's unclear to see what is happening around your incision. It's possible that you just have a loss of epidermal layer of the skin, in which case local care can help this heal on its own. However, if the implant is exposed, then another operation might be involved.

Hello, Your implant is that bump, which is placing pressure on a wound that is not as secure as regular breast tissue with overlying skin. This could become a big problem.  Given the close proximity of the implant to the wound, and if physical examination doesn't reveal implant exposure now, then antibiotics may be warranted, as well as careful wet to dry dressing changes. Best of luck!

It appears that you had an anchor breast lift, which has a T-shaped incision on the lower part of your breast. Wound healing problems can occur at the T-junction, but I would not describe it as "normal healing." Make sure you have a clear understanding of how your surgeon would like you to take care of this open wound. Most surgeons will have you wash the area twice daily with soap and water, cover with moist gauze (or ointment), and a clean dressing. Small wounds typically heal over the course of 2-3 weeks.

Thank you for your picture and questions. I would not refer to this as "normal" healing. You have what appears to be an area of wound dehiscence or poor wound healing that has resulted in an open wound. This area needs to be followed closely and you should follow your surgeon's advice regarding wound care. This will likely get worse before it gets better but you need to keep a close eye on the area if there is an underlying implant.Best of luck!

This is an area that tends to occasionally have healing problems after a breast lift. You need to see your surgeon for help with proper wound care. Hopefully you will heal without issues.

You should have your surgeon keep an eye on this. If it is tender and red it may be infected and you may need antibiotics.  It's not possible to tell without an exam, so make sure you see your surgeon regularly. 

Dear KimberlySue23,based on your photo, it looks like you have wound healing problem which is not uncommon after breast lift. The main cause is problem with blood supply. In most cases it heals after a few weeks or months. Make sure to keep your wound clean. It is always good to stay in touch with your plastic surgeon. I would suggest you to follow his instructions. Thanks for the photo. This is NOT normal healing but it does occur and can be managed so as to get it to heal and close sooner. You need to contact your surgeon and find out what his/her recommendations are to treat this wound. If left neglected and without appropriate direction for treatment, this can become even larger or infected and then you really will have a big problem.Steven Turkeltaub, MD

where your skin edges have come apart.  But the wound is superficial and good wound care will allow this to heal without further surgical procedures.  But doing nothing will only prolong the healing process so talk to your surgeon for how best to take care of this.
