Can Botox to the forehead make your forehead get bigger over time?

Hello: I am currently in Italy, and my doctor is reluctant to give me botox in the forehead area because he said that over time, use of botox in this area makes the forehead grow bigger. He also consistently mentions that I have big forehead for this reason. Is this true? Any studies? Commonly shared theory? Have you seen this over time in your practice? Thanks

Thank you for your question.  Botox cosmetic interacts with muscle contracture and does not make your forehead bigger over time.  Used consistently, Botox will soften lines in the forehead due to persistent muscle contracture and creasing.  Best of luck.

I agree with all the previous answers. The foerehad height will not change with Botox. Aging changes the forehead, mostly because the hairline receeds and second becuase the skin gets more lose and the brows may drop. Using botox can keep the brows in a higher position and then the forehead looks younger.

Dear lsp8888,Botox is generally an on off switch for muscle activity. I get a fair amount of actors/actresses in my practice that are looking to reduce wrinkles but keep some expression. Finding an experienced physician injector is your best bet.Most of patients see first changes after 4-7 days and the final results after 10-14 days.It depends on the amount of Botox and area where it is injected but it usually last for 3-4 months. Thank you for your question. No, Botox will not make your forehead grow bigger. Botox works by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles. Thus, the injected muscle(s) can no longer contract, which causes the wrinkles to relax and soften.

Botox does not make your forehead physically grow longer/bigger over time.  While its possible that your brows may drop with relaxation of your frontalis muscle (giving the appearance of a longer forehead), this can be avoided by not injecting the Botox in the lower aspect of your muscle, thus preserving some function and avoiding the complication we call "brow ptosis". Botox will not make your forehead get bigger over time. If you have are constantly elevating your eyebrows even if you are not aware of it, then your forehead may APPEAR larger when the eyebrows relax however that does not mean your forehead is actually larger. Hope this helps!Johnson C. Lee, MD

No.Not sure what this physician is talking about, but Botox will not make your forehead grow bigger. It may make your forehead feel heavy as it works by weakening muscle activity and the muscle that raises the eyebrows is treated when the doctor is working to reduce horizontal lines. If the brows drop it could APPEAR like the forehead is longer in someone with a receding hairline. At the end of the day, if you want your horizontal forehead lines treated, Botox is great for it and you should consider finding a doctor who is comfortable with treating those lines.
